‌‌The Troubled Region is a newsletter of, and about, foreign correspondence. It is an independent publication launched in 2019 by me, Ann Louise Deslandes.

I'm a writer, journalist and researcher in Mexico, from where I've been reporting on Mexican politics and culture since 2016. I live in San Cristóbal de las Casas in the south of the country.

You should subscribe if you:

- are interested in Mexico, especially themes like migration, the 'war on drugs', and social movements,

- like to think about/are curious about the international power relations of journalism and the media; and/or,

- want to drag me for my giphys.‌‌‌‌

In 2025, access requires a paid subscription of $5USD/month ($60/year, or $50 if you sign up for the whole year in advance), though there will still be the occasional free post.

Welcome :)
